Are you a sugar baby???

A sugar baby is young female or male who is financially pampered and cared for by an older man (sugar daddy) or an older woman (sugar mama or cougar) in exchange for companionship and/or sexual favors. True Life wants to dig deeper into this growing trend and phenomenon!

If you appear to be between the ages of 16 and 25, please email sugarbaby@mtvn.com. You should include your name, location, phone number and a photo of yourself and your significant other(s). Please explain your situation in detail.

The more you share, the more we can start to understand your story. For example: Describe your significant other, how you met, how long you’ve been in the relationship and what your living situation is. Do you normally go for way older men or women? Why? Explain what your financial benefits are to the relationship (cash, expensive presents, college tuition, access to credit cards, vacations, free rent, etc.). What do you give to your partner in return (companionship, intimacy, specific sexual favors, etc.)? Let us know who you feel gives/takes more in the relationship, or it is equally satisfying for both of you?

Tell us what those closest to you think of your relationship. Do they approve, or do they call you a golddigger? Share with us where you think this relationship is going — is it just for fun and thrills right now, or are you guys getting serious and perhaps heading towards marriage?

Note: please only submit if your sugar daddy/mama also wants to do the show! Also, your sugar daddy/mama MUST be supporting you financially in some way! There are no expcetions!

Lindsey Vonn wasn’t expected to win the downhill skiing competition at the 2010 Olympics. She had a bruised right shin that made it hard for her to even walk, let alone compete in the sporting event. But she took the pain, she competed at an amazing level, and for her efforts, became the first American woman to ever win a gold medal for downhill event.

Such resilience, such persistence; it speaks a lot to her great character. Throughout Lindsey’s story in the Olympics, there are three things that should inspire us all to do better in our own lives.

1. Work Through Pain and Woe.

“She’s a fighter. I knew 100 percent, whether she was going to be sore or not, she was going to be ready to race 100 percent.”

-U.S. Ski Team women’s coach Jim Tracy

There were many people who were unsure if Lindsey was going to be able to compete. Her injury was so painful that she had trouble putting on her equipment. But not only was her competitive spirit there, it never wavered. Even her coach had known that nothing was going to stop Vonn from competing.

In our own lives, many of us need to have this character. We need to work through the obstacles that make our journeys harder, that make our days tougher, that make our goals obstinate and unattainable. Instead of folding up our self-esteem and embrace complacency, we need to rise up to our goals, our obligations, and our journeys.

No matter how hard it is, how many times life doesn’t go our way, we must learn that we can only reach our goals when we live to overcome our obstacles. We will always have setbacks in our lives; we shouldn’t let our ourselves be one of them.

2. Everything Is Impossible, If You Don’t Try

What if Lindsey Vonn gave up? What if she decided that she had no chance of winning the gold medal for her event? The cable station ESPN did a report on the incredible odds of winning the event even if Lindsey Vonn was healthy. No one would’ve blamed her for giving up.

But she sucked it up. She competed, and now she has become the new sports identity and role model for people around the world.

Ok, most of us don’t have the opportunity to influence as many people in our daily lives. But how many goals do we constantly make and never achieve? How many do we plan on doing our best, only to end our days doing nothing? When did we decide to allow procrastination and uncertainty take command our how we live?

It is always impossible to do anything if you never bother to do it. Lindsey Vonn could’ve failed. She could’ve injured herself more, she could’ve come in last place, she could’ve put herself in danger. But does it matter that she achieved the greatest Olympic accomplishment of winning gold? No.

What matters, and what should matter to all of us, is that she tried. We should all be so lucky to be able to try for a gold medal, but we are already lucky. We are blessed with ability to try to do anything we want to do. Why waste it on procrastination and doubt? Work hard, don’t worry about failing, and take control of your life.

3. Think about Fitness, Not Weight

Lindsey Vonn is a plus-sized woman. She is around 160 pounds. Both men and women reading this can understand that the issue of weight in our own lives always takes on some form of importance. There are women and men who would think Vonn is “too big”. But we can all see that she is a very attractive woman.

At the end of the day, Lindsey Vonn also represents a tally in favor of the plus-size community. It isn’t weight that should matter, but it is the ability to be fit. Many of us think about attraction around weight ( “I need to lose xx pounds”, “I won’t date anyone of XX pounds”) but what matters most is how one molds their body to be fit.

All those dieting routines, reflections on your stomach size, and gym memberships should revolve around your athleticism, and not around the scale. Even Vonn’s weight caught negative criticism from other competing coaches, and these remarks demonstrate how our society still demeans women who don’t fit the norm of the skeleton default.

Regardless of your sex, Lindsey Vonn should inspire us to think about our athleticism and character before we think about how much we weigh.

Campus safety at colleges, be it on campus or off, has always been a hot button topic. College administrators have done their best to promote better safety measures, yet there are things we can do as students to make our dorms and communities safer for everyone.

1. Know Thy Neighbor

One of the easiest things you can do to be safe is to make friends with people who live closest to you. Well, maybe not friends if you don’t like them, but at least acquaint yourself to who is around you. This will help you decipher between your neighbors and those who are not your neighbors.

2. Roommates: Keep tabs on each other

You don’t have to illegally wiretap your roommate or become obsessive on their whereabouts. We already have parents, guardians, and RAs; we don’t need another supervisor. But try to be aware of your roommate’s routine. Be sure to let your roommate know when you plan on returning if you leave at night or for a long period of time. If something were to happen, your roommate would be able to notice your change in routine a lot more quickly.

Some people are not very friendly with their roommates; the least you can do is leave a note. If not your roommate, seek a neighbor who can accomplish the same goal.

3. Keep Your Dorm Door Open

It sounds contradictory, but keeping your door open while you are in your room is a lot more secure than closing it. For one reason, you are making the dormitory more open and public. This would actually deter someone from doing anything bad because they will know that someone is around and will notice them. If someone is trying to break into a dorm room, they would be more likely to do it if no one is around ( doors closed ), than if someone is around ( door open ).

Also, keeping a door open creates a good community vibe. If a door is open, people will assume that the dorm hallway is social and safe. If the doors are closed, it makes the dorm hallways non-communal and seem unsafe. Doing #3 will also facilitate #1 and #2. Keeping a door open will build community between neighbors, and will allow others to keep an eye on each other. If someone was trying to steal a laptop from a dorm room, they will less likely do this when everyone knows each other, and doors are open while people are inside their dorm.

4. Keep Your Dorm Locked (When No One is There)

This is optional, but it doesn’t hurt to lock your door when you leave for class. Some people don’t lock their doors, and some people do. Even in a safe dorm, you might have a neighbor with sticky fingers. Or you might have someone a passer-by who might be curious. Taking five seconds to lock your door keeps those people from randomly coming into your dorm room.

5. Be Aware of Your Surroundings

Sometimes, you see someone that you’ve never seen before in your dorm. Or maybe your friend’s door is open for a long period of time but they usually keep it closed. Be aware of people and changes around you. You don’t have to call the police for everything you think is sketchy; most schools and dorms may have other people (such as custodians, administration, roommates’ friends etc.) around the dorm you don’t usually meet.

But just keep people in mind. When something happens, you will at least have some information on things you have saw to help.

Remember, if you make friends and be neighborly, you will go a long way in making your dormitory, your college, and your friends safe. You have another suggestion? Please leave it below, and we will add it to our list.

Part Two Tomorrow

Today is the day. The day we remind ourselves that our long-distance relationship is meaningful, and screwing the hottie in the 1st floor of your dorm isn’t important enough to let our significant other know.

Long-distance boy over the phone: “Hey, are you coming up to New York to see me tomorrow?”

Long-distance girl: “Yes! It’s Valentine’s day! I want to see the man that I love.”

Boy: “By the way, I called you last night, and your phone was off.”

Girl: “You know how those 3G phones are in the dorm towers!”

Awkward silence. A sprinkle of denial. Let it simmer until the end of February 14th, and you have just cooked yourself an amazing long-lasting bond with a coating of regretful skeletons in the closet. Or, if you are the lucky cuckold, you can add to the recipe an increased obsession to your mate by constantly calling them at the moment you believe their head or other body maybe hitting the dorm bedpost. Calling frequency usually is inverse to your self-esteem, or how many football players your girlfriend has befriended on Facebook.

Using Valentine’s as a freshener spray to hide the stench of a crumbling relationship doesn’t work; sexual regrets and 3am phone calls will outlast any amount of flowers, jewelry, or diamonds exchanged.

What about something a little more self-reflective, like those who discuss the merits of loneliness and the blatant corporatizing of St. Valentine:

” Valentine’s day is only used to steal from the pockets of the common man!”

“Hambug and poppycock! Love does not exist, but is only a platform to deter our witness to life’s actual meaning, existential and devoid of any hope.”

“Did you hear Saint Valentine was killed because he was a pimp that coerced peasant women to worship epicurean satan text and that Valentine’s day is to bring on the second anti-Christ?”

Philosophy and English students: we get it! You are very clever with your words. I wish I could recite James Joyce in my sleep, but I am too busy watching 30 Rock and getting sleepy from the many hours sitting on my couch. Who the hell has time to reflect the negatives of the holiday of love?

The jaded ones, you are truly the saddest ones of the bunch. You have bad luck with love, and now you are adamant it no longer exist, gone in the way of the wooly mammoth, waterbeds, and Bobby Brown.

You are the group that has always been jealous of love and the old-fashion format of romance. The beautiful flowers delivered to our work-study office, the succulent dark-chocolates combined with fruits we will never see in the dining commons. The classy restaurants with wine priced 600% above its market value ( Yellowtail Cabernet anyone?). The late-night skin-rubbing. Massages. Caressing. Oral pleasure. You know, oral conversations about the ramifications of Charlie Wilson on the Afghanistan military complex. You have a dirty mind!

You people who have long withdrawn from the love game: you are as suckered in to Valentine’s Day along with the non-believers, and the denial-ers. We are all fools to this day of love. We are suckers because we take Valentine’s Day too seriously. But there is hope for all of us, because there is one group that wins on Valentine’s day.

The winners are those who need an excuse to want to love. Those who can’t offer the gestures of love in these times where it is so taboo to positive emotion that we would rather text our parents than actually speak to them (and, to express our inconsideration, force them to learn how to text!). There are those out there who need this day as a reminder that they can share love and goodwill with others, without having to explain the suddenness of their emotion.

Valentine’s day is one of the few love marketplaces that the product can be given away for free and without a catch. Try expressing how much you care about someone in June. Unless you somehow have one of those Jonah Hill-Micheal Cera-Superbad moments in a sleeping bag with your best friend, you are going to be hard-pressed to hold onto friends if you act too nice.

So yes, when it comes to Valentine’s Day, we are all losers. But this day is ours for the taking; we can embrace it as the one day to exchange love with no excuse, even if it is to love ourselves (selflessness is always optional). Seize the advantage while the day is still here; soon, we will all have to descend back into our awkward social interactions, loneliness, numb emotional states, and clandestine infidelities.

Overlook the bullsh*t, and enjoy the chances to tell someone you love them. Happy Valentine’s Day.

If I Fell ( Beatles Cover )

We talked to Nuñez about her website, the scene, her favorite bands, and photography.

Wham: What is you school/major?

Nuñez: Now I’m studying English again in Barcelona’s University, after two years wasting my time studying photography.

Wham: Tell me something about the Barcelona Punk Scene?

Nuñez: I like it. We have shows almost every week and they are cheap, unlike cities like Madrid where they rarely have “real” punk shows and they are expensive. For example, this summer Limp Wrist played here with two local bands for 3€ and in Madrid the show costed 12€. I think it’s the spanish city with more punk bands right now.

Wham: Your photography of the shows you see are very organic. How do you take the photos?

Nuñez: When I started going to shows six years ago I used a very bad compact digital camera and then I got a reflex digital. It was cool but not easy to carry around in my bag and I was always worried that someone may smash it. So now I’ve been using different compact film cameras for two or three years I think. I like them because they are small and you can hold them easily in your hand, and you don’t have to take care of the exposure and stuff like that.

Wham: What is the best show photo you have ever taken of a band?

Nuñez:I have two top favorites:

The first one I took it the first time Fucked Up played in Barcelona. Everybody was really excited about that show. It was crazy. I was taking pictures and stage diving at the same time. I like the photos I took because in most of them everybody is smiling or huging someone, and most of them are my friends. Well, this is the photo:

I like most of the photos I took but I had to choose one. Here you can see the rest.

My second favourite photo is this one (above). I took it at a local show, the band playing are my friends Über. Once again I like it because there’s two persons huging and smiling in the front, and then the guy in the back in the Cro-Mags tee and Anthrax shorts is smiling too.

Wham: Who are your favorite musicians and/or influences?

Nuñez: I listen to a lot of music so choosing is not easy. I’d say I have tattoos of Minor Threat, Black Flag, Bad Brains, the Germs and Descendents if that helps.

Wham: Is there a difference between the bands you hear in Spain/Europe and the punk scene in the United States/South America?
Nuñez: Not really, except for the language. Punk is pretty much universal.

Wham: Would you like to say anything to other music photographers or punk enthusiasts out there?
Nuñez: Just keep documenting your local scene but please don’t be annoying at shows taking photos in the front row and then get mad if someone punches you in the face.

<End>
