How Google Android Will Destroy the Billion-Dollar GPS Market

You know that Tomtom GPS device you were thinking about getting your long-distance boyfriend so he can find your dorm at Upenn? Or maybe the Tomtom Iphone application will suffice.

Google has one-upped the GPS competition by offering a turn-by-turn maps application that is only available for the new Motorola Android phones. And the cost: free.

We all know pretty much everything that Google produces is free. But no navigation system before Google’s was ever given away. Does this mean that Garmin, Tomtom, and other GPS companies are done for? How is this new service going to affect the mobile market, and all the big players involved.
