I am an avid reader of the Umass Daily Collegian. Being a big school, they are able to prop up a big staff and procure a lot of talented students from the campus. Being a former Zoo member, it was one of the few things that gave the campus a collective voice, and there are many stories and editorials that were as entertaining and informational as that of a standard local newspaper.
This week for the Wham, I am introducing the best articles of the week for the paper. These articles were just by far well-written, pertinent, and/or entertaining news that, one can say, shows the voice of the Umass campus. The current website is down, so I am just pulling the best articles for this past week from their temporary new site.
University Apartments to be demolished at the end of the month
These were buildings that when I went to Umass thought they were haunted. The have garden-like area in the center of the connected buildings, and I chilled out there a few times with buddies. Those stories will be for another day, but they will be missed. Umass has changed so much since I have left the Valley.
Campus Pulse is going to replace the old format of how registered student organizations ( I always say ‘RSO’, and the response always comes back as “Wha?”) showcased their groups. Not really an upgrade, but I am pretty sure it was better than the old process of filling out form after form just to get an email and an OIT site.
UNH was ranked in the top 5, and Umass hasn’t beaten a top five team in a little while ( I might not be sure, but Marcell Shipp might have been on the last team that had done it ). It was also Umass Alumni Weekend/Homecoming, which is usually always a great time to be in Amherst. If you ever want to see the remnants of the dying party scene up in Amherst, try to come up for this specific weekend.
Institutionalized Racism In Student Government
You can always count on columnist Alana Goodman to stir up a “WTF!” response on campus. I don’t agree with some of the her points, but she is precise enough that you have to pick a side after reading her work. If anything, she opens discourse on campus, whether it is to praise her or bash her ( the latter mostly, due to the student body’s political standing ).
I get a little peeved reading some of the stuff she says, but she does make her points well, her views known, and her passion is very rare on the campus.
Well, here are your top articles for the Collegian. If you don’t go to Umass, hopefully some of these reads were interesting. Take care everyone.
